'Tai tai..."

Phone conversation by a rich 'tai tai' in Hokkien...

Hello, ya, yalor, getting that new LV bag lor.....(pause)
Ya lor. Out of stock liao.... (pause)
I don't know la. So getting another wan lor...It's the box box wan la.....but in white...(pause)
No need to order wan la...this one sure got stock wan (pause)
Ok la...I'm doing my facial...Bye!
*********************************

I was having my facial beside this lady when she got a call on her mobile.
It was obvious that she was talking to her caller about the new LV bag that she was getting.

"the box box wan la" - meaning the Damier Collection
"but in white" - meaning the new Azur Collection

My summary/analysis on what was that all about:
LV or Louis Vuitton as we all know has made a name in the fashion industry since the 19th century, famous for its handbags, luggages, shoes, and many other fashionable accessories. Well, what I find it amusing is that you do not need to know how to pronounce or even know the exact names of the products by LV to afford one. It boils down to whether you have the means to get it or not! In short, you just need to have the $$$$ to own an LV product! Forget about recognising their names!

If I were to have a conversation with my own circle of friends on the similar content of the conversation had by this rich 'tai tai', it'd somehow sound something like this...

Eh, I think I'm getting a new bag from LV....(pause)
Ya, wanted to get the Neverfull range but unfortunately it's out of stock....(pause)
(I'm just guessing on this one cos I know that the latest range - Neverfull is all sold out in Malaysia)
So I think I'm getting the one from the Damier Azur Collection instead....(pause)
Well, they definitely have stock for that, I'm sure (pause)
Eh, talk to you later. I'm having my facial now.Bye

I just wonder if this 'tai tai' even knows how to pronounce Louis Vuitton!
Well, dont get me wrong. I'm not looking down on this lady or whatsoever. I just find it rather amusing ......on her conversation and the way she described the bag that she was getting. Well, at least she can afford to have one! It was just something to ponder and talk about..........no intention to ridicule anyone.......but then again.........

Simple yet touching

"Careful! Car! Mommy!"

Those were the words blurted out by my beloved 2-year old son while I was driving a few days back! I was stunned yet amazed...touched yet surprised!

I believe your children are what u mould them to be. I used to say such words whenever I foresee that he's gonna trip, fall, or hurt himself. So it's only natural for him to forewarn me about the danger on the road when I drive.

Amazing....absolutely amazing....

Spending $$

I have to stop spending money!!!!
Gosh, I was just rummaging through my wallet to get rid of those receipts that I realised how much I've signed on my credit card this month! It's almost a whopping RM1700! Well, it might not be a lot for some people...but it's definitely quite an astonishing figure for me...cos apart from the card, I'm also kinda running out of cash in hand to last me til the end of this month! Damn! I hate myself for being such a spendrift! But I cant help it!!!

I was already telling myself that I shouldnt be spending that much money anymore cos I am planning to save some extra money to fulfill a desire that has been dwelling inside me for quite a while......that is to bring my parents for a holiday overseas...I really hope that this will come true in less than 2 yrs time! Well, can I do it???? tough mission to accomplish! But I shall make it happen anyhow!
And here I am spending like nobody's business! I really have to do something about fighting the urge/temptations/ or whtever shit that is prompting me to spend money!
I've even tried avoiding going out with friends/making plans to shopping malls just to avoid having more holes in my pocket but I cant seem to stop the urge altogether!

May, Xiu and I were just in One U on Sunday for a make-over session by Stila and I spent a total of RM260 for a freaking makeup/photography session and purchased some make-ups which I dont really need! And to add in salt to injury, I didnt really quite like the results of the pictures taken. Quite a huge regret! Damn!

Sometimes I would really feel the guilt of signing the card given as a supplementary by hubby. I know he meant well by giving me that card for emergency use and all....but I tend to misuse it every single month and end up having the worst guilt inside me and wishing that I didnt get too impulsive when making my purchases!

I think I'm a born with the shopaholic bug inside me! A disease which can never be cured and will continue to get worse instead! Hubby has been giving hints to me to cut down in the spending department and I'd make a vow every month that I'll cut down on my habit the following month but it never seem to happen.
Well, like every other month, I'm just gonna make the same vow now.......Spend less, save more!

I hope to accomplish this simple yet complicated mission next month and hopefully I shall have a higher increment in my savings account next month! *fingers crossed*

Note: No harsh comment needed tho. Save all your trouble. This is just an insight of my feelings right now!

Benefit from BENEFIT

I'm sure most ladies out there have heard of this new cosmetics/skincare brand from the US - BENEFIT! I'm so in lurve with their products that I wish I owned every single product from their collection! *I know it's impossible tho*

Well, they are freaking cheap in the US! As low as USD18 for a cake of an amazing concealer! Imagine if it were to be priced at RM18 here! Anyway, I've got 2 products so far from their range and I fell totally in lurve with them the 1st time I used them! Yup! They are just magical and truly understand our needs in having something created to make us look better, and feel better!

They have cute names for the products as well!

Ok, I shall stop here before anyone thinks that I'm giving free publicity for BENEFIT~

What I have and have no regrets having.....

This totally works as the ultimate foundation for all skin type! I was searching for the right foundation to suit my complexion and have tried many brands and yet still not totally satisfied with their results until I found this - Some-kind-a-gorgeous Foundation Faker! It leaves my complexion totally smooth and naturally blended to create a flawless look, unlike others which give me a look like a porcelaine doll all made up and having the different shade from my neck!

This is the answer to having a lasting make-up! It works as a transluscent layer to prevent our make-up from smudging! I've always had the problem of having my eye-shadow being smudged after a few hours and then having my eyes looking like panda, especially the under circles. So this She-Laq is totally helpful in keeping my eye-shadow in place with a touch of gloss on them! It not only works on the eyes, it's also applicable for lipsticks, blusher and mascara! Isnt it great? To my understanding, it's the only products in the world to have such purposes!

What I'd like to have soon.....

eye con - (eye cream with fading action)

realness of concealness (all in 1 concealer mini kit)

Boi-ing Industrial Strength Concealer

10 - Sexy Sweep (*the name of the product is '10' itself)

Well, I've truly benefitted from BENEFIT! More to benefit from I'm sure!

I know myself pretty too well! I'd be tempted to get more! Think I've caught the shopping bug that is hard to rid off! Wait a minute......I think this bug has been parasiting in me for a very long long time.......well, it's still there happily sitting inside me and I'm sure it's not gonna leave me for a pretty long time.......

For more info on this new label, u can visit http://www.benefitcosmetics.com/

Adios~~~

Back to Basics

Why do holidays have to end so fast? It's always like that isnt it? Time crawls when u have something to look forward to and it never seem to tick the way u expect it to be...but when the day/holiday u've been looking forward to finally arrives......it has to zoom past u like the Concorde! With just a blink or two of the eye........the holiday is over and we are back to basics once again..........sigh.......now i'm looking forward to my next holiday end of the year!
Nevertheless....our trip to Club Med Cherating was indeed an enjoyable one with lotsa quality time spent with hubby and son. 29th June - We started our journey at 10 in the morning and made a brief stop at Maria's parents' house in Bentong at around 11.30 for lunch and some durians....Continued our journey to Cherating and finally arrived at our destination at approximately 3.30. We were greeted with nice views of greeneries from the path leading to the reception area and where the village is.

The next 2 days filled with total relaxation for the adults and fun and play for the kids. We spent lotsa time by the beach and just breathe in the fresh sea breeze along the Cherating coast, listening to the caliming sound of the waves. It was indeed a well-deserved short break for hubby who's been working his ass off since the CNY! Well, the food was great! The night entertainment was fun! The whole experience was marvellous that the only consolation we had before we finally left the village on Saturday was that we made a pact and plan to come back every year!
So, hopefully that'll materialise once again and we shall be greeted once again at Club Med Cherating same time next year! Well....let the pictures do the talking!

Me AUNTY?

I was taking Zach for our usual daily evening walk last week when a young boy, aged around 8 yrs old cycled across our paths and turned his head around and acknowledged me, AUNTY!
Wow! my first reaction to his address was "Boy, this lad has good manners!" Such a sweet boy to address a stranger with the affectionate "AUNTY". As we continued our walk around the neighbourhood, I came to realise....Wait a minute! I was just being addressed as AUNTY! why is it not "Che Che" or something else other than AUNTY? I was guessing in my own thoughts -

"Could it be because I have a toddler holding my hand that that boy would simply assume that Zach is my son, hence the only proper way to address such person is simply an AUNTY?"

"Or could it be that I aged so much that I no longer look like a "che che"? Age is catching up on me that kids would automatically acknowledge that I'm an aunty. What's with my wearing of simple perhaps old-looking shorts and worn-out blouse?" but hey, it's a sexy pair of shorts and a spaghetti top ok!"

"Could it be that my wrinkles popped out out of the blues on that spot that that boy could clearly spot the railway tracks on my forehead that made me an AUNTY to him?"

"Or could it be just a manner taught to this sweet lil boy that he should address a lady "AUNTY" or a man "UNCLE" whenever he comes across one on the street?"

Whatever it is, I have to admit that turning 27 is not something to shout about anymore. I used to feel proud of my age especially after turning 21. Being in the range of early 20s has given me the sense of liberty, youth and forever-young feeling that when I hit 27 last month, I no longer have the same feeling when I hit 21,22,23,24,25, or even 26! I was still proud of my age when my birthday arrived last year...but definitely not this year! I'm in my late 20s! gosh!!!!! I'm definitely gonna dread my next birthday! and soon it's gonna be 30 with three HUGE candles on my cake! Well, I managed to shrugged off that feeling after some time when I was hit with reality again brought up by the address of that lovely young man on the street! Now that got me dreading about my age once again........sigh.....just like the old cliched riddle...what goes up and never go down? - AGE!

AGE - well, it's some that we cannot avoid facing and it increases every year! Now, that got me reflecting back on what I've achieved/done/gone through at this particular juncture of turning 27 this year....lets see.....

1. I completed my degree which I'd dreaded but managed to persevere triumphantly.

2. I held a few jobs after that. Some to my liking and some not.....well, that's life too!

3. I got married in 2003....and still enjoying the bliss of a happy marriage to a wonderful man!

4. Went through child birth (that's not easy at all ok!) and is blessed with a beautiful son.

5. I've learned lots about motherhood and still learning.

6. I've learned lots about personal financial management and have so far able to manage my own finance properly...or so I thought...still learning though......

7. I've made some of the BESTEST! friends that I need to know in my life!

8. I've learned on how to start a blog!

ok....guess I shall just stop here...or I could go on and on on other ridiculous achievements....

Alrighty....I guess I'll just have to get used to being addressed/acknowledged as AUNTY by kids from now onwards and feel good about it! Afterall I'm a mommy myself!

No more che che?? No way at all??.....

"No honey...this is just what life is......You were once young, youthful and you are just gonna get older and older and older.......perhaps a lil bit of make-over/facelift/cosmetic surgeries???......

Nah......I'm ok with ageing......will try to take my stride in ageing wisely and beautifully...........

See ya all when we r back from Cherating.......Adios!

Holiday!

H.O.L.I.D.A.Y.S~

Tell me...who doesnt like HOLIDAYS? I so need a good holiday!!!!!!!! Holiday away from the everyday routine that I've been going through. Away for a total relaxing time with just hubby and Zach! Away for some family quality time. Away for some bonding between me, hubby and Zach. Well, it's not that as if we are not bonding now......it'll be nice to go away somewhere where the 3 of us would just enjoy ourselves and hubby will be relieved from his hectic schedule at work and focus totally on his family. It need not has to be somewhere far...just somewhere apart from the usual places that we frequent every now and then.

And since it's the Visit Malaysia Year 2007, we have decided to explore what's there to offer in our very own backyard! We are actually going to Club Med Cherating next week! Ooooh I"m so excited. It's been quite a while since we last went to a Club Med and that was during our courting days when wedding bells were still a dream and Zach was still in heaven waiting to be taken in as someone's else son!

It was during Valentine's Day (2001) when we embarked on our very first overseas trip together as a couple (my Valentine gift from my darling) with 4 other friends - Club Med Bali! It was indeed a memorable holiday as we really enjoyed ourselves and had so much fun that we wished we could stay there forever! Well, the thought of that particular holiday made me rummaged through my old photo albums and came across some pictures taken during that trip. It was indeed a nostalgic feeling going through the photos and since I've got a new printer cum scanner cum fax machine (yeah! finally a new one to replace the good ol' Canon bubble jet which is like a decade old...), I thought it'll be a good idea to scan some of the pictures and share them here in my blog.

Boy, those were the days man........Wonder if I could still fit into those tiny bikinis! Hahahaha.....Well, that's for me to find out soon.........cos we'll be heading to Club Med Cherating next Wednesday for our very much awaited family holiday!!!! Keep tuned for more stories and pictures to share when we return after next weekend!!!

Adios........Cherating...here we come!

Crime Crime Crime

What has got into the society nowadays? Sigh.....

Hubby, me, Maria and Yeoh were having dinner last Sunday when Maria told us about her colleague's traumatic experience dealing with a group of unscrupulous and heartless robbers.

This is a REAL drama told to Maria directly by the victim and his family.

Place - Sungai Buloh
Crime - Forced robbery by a group of 9 robbers!

How it happened - It was during midnight when a group of Indian ( I know I shouldnt be racist but it was indeed a dirty job done by these coloured monsters!) robbers banged loudly at the front gate of a bungalow house owned by (ironically!) an Indian family! It seemed these robbers were not afraid of anything as they repeatedly shouted at their victoms to open their front door and mind you, these bastards were armed with parangs, hammers and spanners! What surprised me when I heard the story is that the victims actually called the police upon seeing their attackers at the gate but it took the police a whole freaking 1 hours to arrive at the scene! By the time they arrived, the robbers were already gone with their victims' valuables and cars...not before injuring them. The head of the family needed a few stitches to the back of his head after being hit by the parang. There was a small girl (around 5 yrs old) in the house and she wasnt spared from the attackers as well! They hit her head with a spanner!
Another shocking info about this is that, the guard house is actually located less than 200m away from the house and no one seemed to notice the commotion when it took place!

I can just imagine the trauma the family went through and the post-trauma of the whole incident! I had goosebumps all over me after hearing such dramatic true incident. The thought of my own family being faced with such experience is enough to send shivers down my spine! WHY WHY WHY??????????????????????

That's one!

Another one.....
Happened just a few days ago and widely reported in the media yesterday.

‘Armed group ‘tailed mum’

PETALING JAYA: ......the son of a woman who died after being involved in an accident in Puchong said several men confronted his mother just before her death early yesterday morning.
Yew Yong Hon said he received a call around midnight from his mother Yek Yow Ngan, 51, who said her car rear windscreen had been smashed.
Hours later, he received another call from his mother saying that the front windscreen was smashed.
“After receiving the second call, I quickly rushed over from my house in Ampang with my girlfriend,” Yek said.
Yew claimed that when he arrived, his mother, a Nanyang Siang Pau employee, was surrounded by a group of men with parangs and iron rods at her house in Batu 8, Puchong.
“I got out of my car and yelled. They then fled,” he said.
Yew, tailed his mother, who was in her own car, to lodge a police report. However, along the way, they saw the group of men waiting by a car and motorcycle at the roadside.

Son’s sorrow: Yew mourning the death of his mother at the Kwong Tong funeral parlour yesterday evening. Offering their sympathies are state assemblyman for Kinrara Dr Kow Cheong Wei (centre) and Puchong MCA division chief Wong Hock Aun. Yek’s body was released for burial after a post mortem.“My mother sped off and I reversed my car to go another way. The group split into two and chased us. That’s when my mother and I got separated,” he said.
Yew said he managed to shake off his pursuers.
He then found his mother's car in an accident with another vehicle at Taman Bintang, near Bandar Kinrara. He brought Yek to Assunta Hospital.
“However, the hospital demanded RM10,000 for my mother’s operation but I only had RM250 with me. They made us wait an hour before transferring her to Hospital Kuala Lumpur,” he claimed.
Yek died three hours after she was admitted to HKL.
Meanwhile, Assunta Hospital said a medical officer had immediately attended to Yew's mother.
It said Yek was comatose restless and had suffered a heart attack. She had to be resuscitated and intubated, and needed four pints of blood.
However, when Yek was being prepared to be admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, Yew asked about charges.
“Hospital staff counselled that the estimated final bill could be more than RM10,000 in view of the severity of her injuries.
“The patient's family then requested for the patient to be transferred to a government hospital,” said the hospital.
It said the patient had incurred a bill of RM1,900 but only RM250 was paid.
“Assunta Hospital carried all emergency and necessary care and treatment for the patient and did not deny treatment or demand a deposit be paid before treatment,” it said, adding that all facts and information had been forwarded to the Health Ministry.
When contacted, Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Zainal Rashid said police were unaware of the assault on Yek.
Those with information can call 03-8948-4822 or the nearest police station.

Sigh........when can there be an end to all these sad stories? Lives have been lost because of some heartless beasts who are such inconsiderate monsters! Where are their hearts/brains/feelings?
I curse them with all my heart that they will burn and rot in hell...but not before having their skin sliced and chopped into tiny pieces and thrown to the dogs! Even animals deserve better treatments than these beasts! How I wish to see them being thrown into a huge meat-mincer machine and see their blood all ozzing out with their mouth widely opened screaming for rescue! That was how they treated their victoms and how their victims felt when faced with these heartless creatures!
Gosh...I could go on and on man!

...another insight of my mind...adios

Maids

as the saying goes......"you cant live WITH them, you cant live WITHOUT them..."

well.....I have my fair share of foreign maids' problems and things can get pretty messy when certain problems arise and needs to be tackled......properly.
those who know me pretty understand my predicament for I'm someone who's expressive and open up to them whenever my 'beloved' maids give me 'pressies' for the day!

think I could write a book on the maid problems I experienced and those stories I've heard from people around me. Just sitting down now and rewinding back to the times on how my life's been coloured by these "smart, gifted and those who have the potential do wonders to their employers" creatures. The list of things my 2 beloved maids have done is enough to fill the pages of a university honours degree's thesis! Perhaps more.....Sometimes they make me wonder......are they really that incapable of using their brains (I wouldnt wanna use the S word) or did they just do it on purpose to test the level of my anger and the level of boiling points my head will get into. I must salute them for being so capable at times in doing the house chores and leaving behind their brains back in their homeland. These people can be so naive that they think that we dont see or check on them.

First was my Philipino maid who gave me one hell of a problem the minute she arrives. To cut the story short, she was one of the reasons I went into labour the day after I encountered some problems with her. Yes, my son was born a day after this "sweetie" gave me a big pressie!!!

These people are just so capable in making our life a living hell sometimes.

Like for instance, soaking the table cloth in a potty!!!!.... Yes, I can see that your eyes are huge now that your eyebalss might be dropping out anytime soon. You might ask - who in their right mind would soak something in a potty.... Table cloth somemore????? well....my maid did. And she gave me a clueless look as to why I got so mad at that. It made me wonder if I could shove her brain into the washing machine and have it cleaned and bleached!

Another one would be leaving their slippers outside of the car and getting onto the car bare-footed! Yes...this actually happened to my maid and we actually found her slippers right in the middle of the road outside our house. She actually had the cheek to ask me "Maam, mana selipar saya" when we arrived at the mall one day and were ready to get down when she realised she "lost" her slippers. Tell me...to laugh or to be angry?
Same thing happened to my friend's maid as well....

Another thing about these people that I cant stand is their ability to answer back and not admit their mistakes. In fact, this happened twice yesterday..... I got up pretty early yesterday morning to send my hubby to the airport when I noticed that a pail at my garage overflowed. I went and checked and realised that she didnt turn off the water pipe while soaking the mops into the pail. I wanted to confront her there and then but she was in the toilet washing some clothes and there we were rushing to the airport. So when I returned from the airport, I immediately confronted her about it and guess what sweet lil maid answered? "Saya mau rendam mop dalam baldi. Sebab itu saya buka air." Obviously she didnt understand my question to her which was "U tau tak u tak tutup paip tadi?" and she had the cheek to answer me back by insisting that she did turn off the pipe after I told her my discovery! I mean, why cant they just shut up and say sorry? That could have saved me some energy to talk further. This is one thing I despise about my current maid. She loves answering back and insisting that she's right eventhough there are proofs that she's not. And again it happened at my mother's house that same day in the evening. She forgot to switch off the water heater and insisted that she did!

And this particular maid tend to talk alot and mind other people's business. Imagine she could actually join in our conversations among my family members and think that she's part of us...duh~ We would be speaking in Hokkien and when she understands what we were talking about, she would join in as if it's a pretty normal thing to do. Urgh~~~~!!!!!!!!!
Once she even nicknamed my chubby-but-cute niece "GEMUK"! The exact sentence was like this "Maam, Gemuk sudah datang." Imagine my horror upon hearing that coming out from her mouth???!!!!! I could swear that my eyes would have fallen out if not for the nature's ability to hold them back!!! I was practically speechless when I heard that.
And another time when my mother and cousin were having this conversation about my cousin's second daughter crying all the time...this "mulut banyak" maid actually joined in the conversation by saying, "Yalah, dia tu suka nangis."...oblivious to the fact that she's just a freaking maid and her opinion doesnt matter at all! Shouldnt have opened her bloody mouth in the first place. My mom actually told me to educate my maid after that. Imagine my embarrassment.

Gosh...I can seriously write a book about this girl. She and her big mouth! She loves talking.....sharing stories with other maids and eventually making the stories come back to me and get me on my nerves... One such incident which made me loathe her even more was when I found out that she told other people how much ang pow money I gave her and comparing the amount with other employers who gave her. She told her fellow friends that even other employers gave her more that her own employer. The thing is....she made a mistake and told the wrong info cos as a matter of fact I DID give her more that she reported to her peers!!!!

Also, she tends to have requests like a princess. She actually told me what she dislikes and likes about the way she's being treated in my house! Mind....this B#$%@ just doesnt realise where she stands in the hierachy in our household!

I know I shouldnt be upset with these sort of issues. Afterall, the reasons why they are here to work is because they are not that educated enough, hence no common sense. But hey, I cant help it... I'm a woman...I can get very emotional and sensitive over things like that. My husband used to tell me that I get upset for nothing and I should just let loose. Afterall, they are just maids... Well, he's true in a certain way but then again.......I have my own feelings...I have the rights to be upset....I need to let it out. So much so I did have some rows with my husband a few times simply because of these freaking maids! Men tend to take things lightly and not look deeper into the issue. Hence, our disagreements in certains things with regards to these maids. I understand that it's not healthy to be trapped in arguments with my hubby over the maids....but then again, I realised that with the rise of certains issues, I could actually get to know more about my husband, as well as see deeper into his characters which left me wonder if I truly know this man whom I married. Well, that's for me to find out and for you to....well, wonder further. haha

Anyway, this particular "princess" maid is leaving tomorrow..for good! Another round of headache that I went through on this abrupt decision of hers to return before her contract ends. Well, that leaves me with another headache - not knowing what kinda person my new maid's gonna be. One thing's for sure - she's not gonna be spoilt like how this current one has been - especially by certain people whom unfortunately didnt make it to my list of favourite people. Well, May God bless me with more wisdom and patience in handling my new maid and May God also bless her with common sense and guide her into making full use of her brain! Amen~

Well, I'm not saying that all foreign maids are incapable of using their heads when they are at work......I do have friends who have such good maid that they treat her like a part of the family. Bringing her around the world whenever they go for family vacations and all. Well, that's because she deserves it and proved her worth and gained her employer's trust!

But then again.....you can never trust these people 100%.......simply because no matter what, they are strangers whom we have no idea of their backgrounds or whatsoever. Even family members have disputes among themselves.....and what makes one thinks that these maids would not change their attitudes and turn their backs against us?

Like I mentioned earlier......you cant live with them, you cant live without them.......how true!!

Life and death

Today (23 Apr 2007) marks the 3rd year anniversary of my maternal grandfather's death in the lunar calendar! Ya, I know...you might ask...why must I emphasise on the lunar calendar. Well, I was equally confused when I was told that the taoists practice the ritual of counting an extra year for the person's death anniversary (in the lunar calendar) as opposed to the Roman calendar. You see, Grandpa left us suddenly on April 15, 2005. And according to the Roman calendar, it was supposed to be his 2nd year of commemoration. But no, according to my aunt, who is a strong Taoist believer, we have to have some sort of 'celebration' for him to mark his 3rd year in the 'other' world. Hence, today is supposed to be the exact day of his passing on the lunar calendar. Odd heh? Well, since Grandpa was a Taoist, I just went along with whatever needed to show my respect to him. How I miss him.........

We gathered at Grandpa's house early in the morning today to take part in the rituals in paying our respect to him. Then we adjourned to the front of the house for the incense and paraphernalia burning ceremony. You know, the ever-famous huge paper house with many 'servants' inside. And cars and clothings and hell-notes (I never liked the usage of the word 'hell'. Why cant they say paper money or something like that?) and many other 'essential' items that Grandpa needs in the 'other' world. It was indeed a culture shock for me because it was my first time in witnessing such event. (Fyi, I'm a born Christian and I've never taken part in any Taoism rituals, including this one) Anyway, I went along with whatever the Taoist master told us to do. All for my love for Grandpa. Kneel down, stand up, bow down, walk around the paper paraphernalia and eventually witnessing the burning ceremony and hoping that Grandpa would be able to receive what's been burned for him.

Picture 1. - Getting ready for the 'burning' ceremony.
Picture 2. - Grandpa's 'properties' in the other world
Picture 3. - Everything gone to Grandpa.

I was not there when he passed on. In fact, no one else was. Grandpa just collapsed in a coffeeshop one usual morning and he didnt regain any consciousness after that. Doctors confirmed that he died of a heart attack, even though he didnt have any history of heart disease. He was 77. He left without any of his loved ones beside him. We were all devastated by his passing. In fact, mom still cries every now and then whenever Grandpa was mentioned in any of our conversations.

I was not present at all during the rituals and his funeral. That's because I just gave birth to Zach exactly a week before that. Grandpa never got the chance to see his great-grandson. And I didnt get to bid him goodbye because apparently, I was forbidden to even attend his funeral, for superstitious reason. How ridiculous! But then in order not to aggravate the already-saddened atmosphere, I had to abide by the 'rules'. Hence, my absence among my family members in sending Grandpa off on his last journey. A week before that we welcomed Zach into the world. A week after that, goodbye to Grandpa! How life and death played their roles in our family that week!

So, that's 2 years ago (3 years in the lunar calendar). How time flies.
I can still remember how Grandpa used to stand behind me while I peeped through my card during our game of Blackjack during CNY. He would sometimes help me with drawing the cards, hoping to get a good return for our bet. Ya, we would place our bets together and share the rewards after that. That's how I always remember him. His ever-smiling expression whenever we made some 'profit'.

Another thing that will always remind me of Grandpa would be times when his face lit up whenever we bought him his favourite drink - Anchor Ice. He used to say that he gets the 'real' kick from it, as compared to other types of beer. How I wish to see him smile again for that.

Also, the time when he would secretly ask me to buy him his black-colored hair dye by passing me the sample box of his preferred brand. Grandpa was very vain when it comes to his appearance. He would make sure that not a single strand of white hair was visible, and so he would always sit in his room busy beautifying his crowning glory!

I can also still remember the times when he was in the hospital bed, quietly lying down, eventhough we knew that he was in deep agony after his surgery to remove the cancerous part of his stomach. He never uttered a single sigh of pain eventhough he was obviously in great agony. Grandpa was indeed a man with a few words; even when he was in excruciating pain after his surgery. Just imagine this - an old man in his 70s going through a major operation in his stomach! We cant even stand the pain of a prick on our finger, let alone a deep cut in the stomach! He went through that agonising stage of his life and continued to live on for several years after that without his cancer returning. Deep behind our minds, we all thought that cancer would take his life one day but never expected that heart attack instead was to be the culprit.

Having faced with Grandpa's sudden death has somehow thought me how to show more of my love to those around me. Mom, dad, hubby, Zach, sister, brother, extended family and friends. It hit me real hard at that time that I will never get to see Grandpa ever again. No more buying him Anchor Ice. No more giving him pocket money for his weekly 'bah kut teh' or 'roti canai' breakfast with his friends. No more smelling his breathe of Hudson Hacks. No more buying him his hair-dye tube. No more smelling his Brylcream-ed hair. No more everything of my beloved Grandpa. He's the only Grandpa I know all my life for my paternal grandfather passed away when I was only 2. The only person I affectionately call "Ah Kong". We might have lost him, but we shall never forget him inside our heart.

So, one simple yet important lesson I learned - Show my maximum love to those I adore and not hide it inside me for I will never know when will be the last time I see their smile, hear their laughter, talk to them, call them, kiss them, eat with them, etc. In short, as it might sound cliched, NEVER TAKE LIFE FOR GRANTED!

* This page is dedicated to my beloved Ah Kong - Ng Heng Chiok, whom I'll always remember and continue to miss * May his soul rest in peace and May his memories continue to live in every one of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren*

Happy Birthday Darling Boy!

I've been very lazy to post any message here lately and have totally missed out in posting my birthday message to my beloved son. Well..it's better late than never right?

Anyway, we celebrated Zach's 2nd birthday on a small scale at home on 7th Apr (his exact birthday is 8th Apr) I can sum it all by saying that I need to seriously consider another birthday celebration at home. It's not as easy as I thought it would be. Trust me, it's not easy handling a kids' party at home! What's with the logistic and management.....urgh! No doubt I didnt cook on that day..but still! hahaha...a very tiring evening in the end......

Well, who knows, when his 3rd birthday arrives, I might have the enthusiasm once again and forgot how messy and tiring it would be in the end....

Anyway, what's more important is seeing my child's face lit up the minute he saw his birthday cake! Yeah, his current 'idol' is none other than Mr Mickey Mouse himself. And of course Zach's inquisitive look when he unwrapped his pressies.......

Afterall.....it's all worth the effort.......things parents do to bring joy to their kids.......

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY LIL CUB!

March 28, 2007 - What a Day!

Besides being involved in an accident, I guess one thing a driver dreads is going to the workshop to have the car fixed and not having the car for a few days! ok ok..another is of course footing the bill for the damage. This is what happened to me right now as I type away in this particular blog. My car was banged 2 days ago! It was stationary and parked right outside my students' house when it got knocked by a teenager trying to reverse his car out from his porch! Damn! Damn! Damn! Not to mention, a "P" driver!

Well, I wasn't that mad having seen the damage done by the accident, but what got me on my nerve was the fact that this fellow actually denied the whole thing! Thankgoodness my students' mother was at the balcony of her house and she witnessed the whole incident. The fellow actually had the cheek to say, "I didnt do it. It merely went past your car when I reversed mine." (note that there were a few scratches on his Kia Sephia and he still had the cheek to say he didnt do it) It didnt help that my car was already dented before this. I admit that it was not in a perfect condition (hence his denial) but to have my signal light broken by him and not admitting it really blew my top away! So there I was trying to get into his mind and bear the responsiblity of his mistake and all I got was "Why dont you talk to my parents!" And I said Ok...

"So where are your parents?"

"My mom will be home after 7."

So what else could I do except to wait for the return of the 'hero' mother? Anyway, I finally met up with her at her house and she directly told me to make a police report and claim the damages from her insurance company. I wouldnt say that she's not taking responsibility for her son's mistake .....but the damage is considered small and I dont think a police report is necessary lor.

"I know my son. This is not the first time he scratched the car. In fact, I wanna teach him a lesson. I'm asking him to make the police report himself tomorrow and he shall have his merit points deducted, considering him being a "P" driver. He's feeling very miserable right now."

Well, I was speechless. It's kinda good in a way to teach your son a lesson, but look here, you are also putting me into a troublesome situation to go all the way to the police station just to make a report on the small damage...just because you want to teach your son a freaking lesson!

To cut the story short, I managed to persuade her to settle the whole thing without the need to make police reports and compensate me on the damage done. So we agreed to spilt the bil into half, considering I already have some dents on my car previously. He just aggravated it and not to mention nicely broke my ever-trusting signal light!

Then there I was, in the workshop, leaving my baby for repair. The quotation - RM380 to fix the bumper with paint spray and replace the signal light.
So, as promised, I called up Mrs Chua (ya, 'hero's' mother) and told her the cost of repair for my car.

THE damages... *note the deepened dent right below the light (pic 2) and of course the broken light (pic 3) not to mention the extra scratches too...yes, thanks to the 'hero'*

*Phone conversation*

"Well, as you know, your car was already dented before my son hit it. So, I think it's only fair that you fork out more for the repair"

BLOODY F*#^ING HELL!

"But I thought you have agreed to foot half of the bill?"

"Ya, but according to my son, he didnt make such a big damage to your car."

"Well, Mrs Chua, I dont blame you for believing your son. And I'm honest enough to let you know that my car was already dented before your son banged it. But seriously, the signal light was indeed damaged by him. Not to mention the extra and deeper dent he left on my bumper."

"Ya, I know. But your car is not a new car. So it's not fair that I have to foot the bill for a brand new light. Ok la. Let's make this simple, I'll pay RM150 for your damage. Settle? You know I have have faced a lot of problems lately with my maid running away and me forking extra money to hire a new one." (*she has told me a long story about how my students' maid 'stole' her maid and that he maid ran away. Thank again to my students' maid. Well, that's another long story altogether. Pening nya kepala I*)

"Ya, I understand Mrs Chua, But you have to understand that your problem of your maid running away has got nothing to do with me. And it's only RM40 extra if you were to just agree to foot half of the RM380 bill."

"Ok la ok la. Let's not take drag this issue any longer. RM160. I'm also into some financial constraints you know. Ok? Furthermore, I didnt really get to see clearly the damage on your car because it was already dark last night when we met."
*like it's my fault that she couldnt see clearly in the dark...duh!*

"Well, what can I say. OK la. If you really need to see the damage, I have taken some pictures from my phone and I'll show it to u once I bring you the receipt and collect the payment from you when my car is ready."

*Phone conversation ends*

Did I mention that these people live in a semi-detached house in a gated and guarded community in Kota Kemuning? RM40 also she wants to bargain with me. I felt like as if I was in the pasar malam trying to get a good bargain for my groceries!

Sigh sigh sigh....people you meet in this world.

Well, looks like I have to fork out extra of what I expected earlier for my car.......

Pregnant, wedding, pregnant, wedding

Everyone around me is either getting pregnant or married this year.....Guess it's a good year to welcome a new addition into a family heh? baby/wife/husband/daughter in law/ son in law... ..etc...Now let's see my list of frens who are expecting changes in their lives.....

1. Samantha is due in May
2. Karen is due in August
3. Jacelyn is due in September
4. Sister in law is due in November

1. Ben's wedding in May
2. Brother in law and Cheryl's wedding in July (that's 2 different wedding)
3. Kristy's wedding in November

That's the info I've got so far. Am sure more to come.....

So with all the huss about people I'm closed with being pregnant especially, hubby is itching and giving me hints of trying for another baby this year. He said he'd love to have a daughter (if God permits) and as for me, I've always wanted to have a daughter. Guess, it's just a mother's wish to have at least a daughter in her life. Anyway, those close to me would know by now how my first pregnancy went. It was indeed a roller coaster ride when I had Zach ( I dont mean the morning/night sickness...more to that and it's got to do with genetic hiccups and all...long story tho..anyway, it turned out fine at the end and Zach came to this world as how we hoped he'd be) Well, the thought of going through that again really gives me the goosebumps. Trust me, no mothers deserve to go through such turmoil especially when she's most vulnerable during her pregnancy. It's not something anyone would wanna go through. Nevertheless, the thought of giving Zach another sibling is much more meaningful. Thus, my agreement to try for another one. Hopefully, (like the Muslim say, Insyaallah) I will be pregnant by end of this year and welcome a Rat baby next year. Hopefully with God's grace and mercy, I'll have a better and smoother pregnancy this time around.
Wish me luck....

Housewives DO work!

I was reading the papers the other day about a male journalist writing about how his expectation to become a househusband turned out to be a total opposite. You see, this writer wrote about his experience as a househusband caring for his young daughter who is autistic. That's beside the point. What is amusing about his article is that he was expecting to have a few hours of "ME" time a day, considering he is not working anymore but it turned out to be the exact opposite. He was in fact busier than he was in office and finally understood the fact that why most housewives always say that they are busier than working mothers! And to add in to his amusing piece, he even mentioned that he despised the sarcastic question poised to him and annoys most housewives - "What do you do all day?" It's a total slap in the face for most housewives as if to claim that "You seem to have nothing to do and you have all day to yourself!" and "You dont work. So what do you do most of the time?" Excuse me...may I beg to differ?!

Now let me state some thoughts from my mind. I've been a housewife for the past 3 years and still am. It was not a decision I made; in fact it was somehow made for me. I found out that I was pregnant after I left my last job and was in search for better opportunity. As a matter of fact, I was looking forward to starting a new career life when I noticed that my period was late and hence, pregnant! During my first month of pregnancy, I received a call from HP (Hewlett Packard) offering me a lucrative job as a Communication Executive. As much as I wanted to accept the job offer, I had to tell them the truth about my pregnancy, knowing very clearly that I might not get the job the minute I made the revelation. True enough, I never received any call from them after that. And then I had to hold back my plans to continue working until my baby is born. Then came another bombshell...my Philipino maid gave me a hell of a problem and then one problem after another......I was and still am stuck as a housewife. All for the sake of my son. I'm into part-time teaching now though. Ok, again...that's besides the point of my post this time.

What I'm annoyed, as I'm sure many other housewives are too is that people tend to have a stereotypical opinion that being a housewife is a bliss and that one should not complain being one. Ok, I'm not saying that I'm complaining but we, housewives are not as free as many people think we are. In fact, we work 24/7 and there is not such thing as a public holiday in our calendar. I often received remarks like;

"You are not working wat. You should be able to do this and that."

"You busy? You must be joking cos you are not working for goodness sake."

"Not free? What do you do all day (since you are not working)?"

"No time? But you are not working."

Excuse me......we might not be working as how others do in their offices.....but we DO work alright.......I mean...don't these people ever think that we housewives hold many jobs/positions at a same time? Look...we are:

1. Caregiver to our kids
2. HR manager cum supervisor - to our maids, who sometimes really give us a heck of a problem and have us breathe through fire in our lungs and throat!
3. Chef cum dietitian cum menu planner
4. Laundry manager - otherwise we'd have to kiss goodbye to our clothes should they land in the hands of the maid
5. Financial manager - bills, bills, bills...(though we might not be the one who earn the $$$..but still.....)
6. Production machine - it's easy to say but we are the ones who have to go through the agony of delivering babies.....dont get me wrong....ALL mother (working ones included) go through this as well.....
7. Story teller cum movie maker cum clown....entertainer of the house.
8. Wet 'marketeer' - it's not easy knowing what to buy from the butcher, fish monger, vege/fruit sellers..not to mention bargaining for the best price and ensuring that we are not being cheated.
9. Fashion consultant cum personal shopper cum bargain hunter
10. Etc. Etc. Etc...the list goes on and on....

Not too long ago the Women and Family Development Ministry suggested that housewives be given salaries for their roles in the families. I welcome the suggestion although it might be tough for certain families to abide by it. Well, come to think of it......a housewife's salary can never be measured and we can never come out with a proper figure to fill in the blanks for SALARY:____________. Another suggestion reckoned that husbands whose wives are housewives should contribute some EPF into their wives' account for their unlimited contributions to the family and subsequently give her a sense of financial security when she reaches the retiring age. Again, this is indeed an applaudable suggestion. But how many husbands in our society would actually carry out this move? I have to admit that some actually do. For example my beloved husband. And I'm really thankful that I have such an understanding husband who never seems to take me for granted although I'm not the one who brings in money into the family. But to have a peace of mind at work for beloved hubby, knowing that THE wife is at home watching over the safety of beloved son - PRICELESS!

Well, I'm not saying that my role in the family should be acknowledged but I just cant stand those remarks from insensitive people who undermine the roles of a housewife. Sometimes, it's not just the remarks which irk me...but certain obvious actions do show their insensitive presumptions on us. What I want these people to know is that please...please show some respect to us housewives. We are not trying to gauge any recognition...just bear in mind that being a housewife is not as easy as most people might think. Just compare a kid who goes to the babysitter and a kid who's brought up by his own mother. I dont have to elaborate further......BIG difference.

Sigh...I can never find an ending to this particular post cos there is just so much to write about. But I guess I'll have to end it somehow otherwise this post might never be published.

Post CNY

So...CNY came and went...just like that! All the spring cleaning, preparations, baking and ordering of CNY goodies.....All just for a few days of celebration. Sometimes I wonder if it's all worth...but then again, if it's not for that day some people might not even have their house thoroughly cleaned! It's the time of the year for me to be busy packing for our 'balik kampung' trip to Tgg. And it's the time for me to pack the red packets for distributions to the kids and some of my beloved yet-to-be-married friends. Gone are the days when I look forward to this day when I could get some extra $$$ from generous relatives and friends. Now it's the other way round...guess it's the circle of the Chinese tradition where one can not avoid but to abide by it, thought it's an unwritten law. But then again, who says you can't receive ang pows when you are 'married? I did...from my parents. No matter what, I'm still their daughter!
Anyway, I've listed down some events which took place for the past 2 weeks.

15 Feb 2007
We left for Tgg on 15 Feb 2007 night, 3 days before the big day. It's the same every year since our wedding that we are to spend at least 5 days in the hubby's birth place for the CNY celebration. Well, the journey there wasn't as smooth as we have hoped....Air Asia....what can you expect? the tagline should be changed to "Air Asia - Now everyone can delay!"
Yes, our flight was delayed for a freaking 2 hours! Stuck in the tiny LCCT for a freaking 3 hours including the first anticipated hour!

We finally landed at Tgg airport at 11.30pm! What a journey! As we were looking forward to reaching the in-laws' place for a goodnight rest, we were slapped with yet another unanticipated surprise - Blackout in the whole area of Kuala Ibai where the in-laws' place situated. Oh Gosh.....what a day! So, what choice did we have? A night at the hotel. The hubby couldnt take the stress of being in the dark, not to mention with annoying mosquitoes around and the heat of the east coast, on top of the fatigue and long hours at the airport.....it was just unbearable.
We were finally settled down at Primula Hotel for the night at 2.30am.

16 Feb 2007
Checked-out from Primula at around 12pm and headed to in laws' old hse in the town. Spent almost the whole afternoon there and headed back to the hse in Kuala Ibai after lunch around 3pm.

17 Feb 2007
All set for the celebration. Had our annual reunion dinner with the Goh family......somehow missed the feeling of being with my own family. A sense of nostalgic feeling filled my heart especially when we were seated on the dinner table. Nevetherless, I overcame the feeling with the thoughts of beloved hubby and son by my side.

18 Feb 2007
Finally...with all the preparations and hoo hah...the day has arrived.......and went.........nothing extra special to write about.......

"My first outfit of the Boar year!"

19 Feb 2007
Returned from Tgg and all set to have a celebration back in KL!

20 Feb 2007
Spent the whole day at parents' place and what else?????? started the gambling session.....hahahahahahha.....made quite a bit from beloved hubby...RM11 to be exact.

21 Feb 2007
An impulsive decision brought us up to Genting Highlands for a fun day at the casino. Went up there together with mom, dad, Jean and hubby. Tried our luck at the Roulette table and mind.......Received quite an ang pow from Uncle Lim. Our biggest ang pow so far.....hahahahahahhahaha......had a sumptuous meal at Gohtong Jaya to celebrate our windfall........Quite a day indeed....

22 Feb 2007
Spent the whole day relaxing at home and doing what we like best....NOTHING. Ahahahahahahahahah

23 Feb 2007
Had a small open house at our place and invited only relatives and close friends. And as usual......."open table"! Some guests went back with big smiles and some....with small holes in the pockets....All in the name of G.A.M.B.L.I.N.G.!

24 Feb 2007
CNY celebration continues with a different twist. Out on a double date for dinner with Maria and Yeoh at TGI Subang Parade. Nothing grand...just for chit chats and a game of football for the men.

25 Feb 2007
Brought the kids (Zach, Natasha & Tze Han) to Kota Permai Club for Lion Dance show organised by the club. Mind.....the kids really enjoyed themselves....not to mention the parents too. Had a great time watching the acrobatic stunts performed by the Malaysian team of Lion Dance. Well, I have to admit that not only did the kids enjoy themselves, so did the mommies and daddies!
Then both mommies (Maria & I) quickly transformed ourselves into 'demure' Malay women to attend a Malay wedding. Hung around for less than 30 minutes before sneaking out. At least we gave face to the host ler.......hehehehehhe
Then we rushed off to another open house by my aunt in Klang. Spent almost the whole afternoon there. Phew.....a hectic day indeed!

All set for the 'show'

All sweaty but it's worth it!

Lion's intimacy - 18SX!

So, I guess it's the end of another year of CNY celebration........till we greet the year of the Mouse next year.....have a good year of the Boar and hopefully it will be as fat as the boar....everything but physically!

Valentine

Family Valentine outing - 10 Feb 2007

Took our kids out for a family Valentine outing at KLCC. Had lunch at California Pizza (which doesnt turn out as well as we have anticipated). However the kids seemed to enjoy themselves.....esp. Natasha and Zach. Just look how passionate they are....... Aren't they the cutest couple ?????

14 Feb 2007

Was at the beauty salon beautifying myself in preparation for the year of the Boar! Check out my nails......yea....I'm vain!

Next mission - A Valentine Gift for the hubby.......Found!!!!!!!!!!! The GIFT for the beloved hubby............Polo Ralph Lauren Blue....The scent is just.......aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah..........

Just like what most of my fellow bloggers wrote in their blogs.....that they just don't understand why should people spend extra $$$ on the big V day and that they disagree that the 'love' day should not only be celebrated on Feb 14 but every single day of their lives.....well, I couldn't agree more to that. And to me Valentine is just as special as any other day of my life being with my loved ones but to have gifts given to each other on this special just makes it more meaningful and will somehow engraved a memory in our lives. Agree or not, I'm sure any girl would be extra happy to have receive something on this day...especially from someone they love, admire or cherish! As for how we celebrated the night on this day this year....well, nothing extravagant...just a simple Chinese dinner at Xin Cuisine Chinese Restaurant @ Concorde Hotel Shah Alam with 2 good friends of ours ( Maria & Yeoh) - yes...just us adults. However, the venue does make a memorable place for us both couples as we held our wedding dinners there!

Happy Valentine!

It's tomorrow........the day when LOVE IS IN THE AIR ~
More significantly for me......it's the day when I was proposed...in year 2003.
It was a very cute way of being proposed and those who know me well should know by now how I was being proposed *wink*. Guess I wont mention it here la...since I know that my beloved hubby will drop by here every now and then.....
Nevertheless, it was indeed a very unforgettable day and it's the day which changed my life when I finally said "I WILL" to the ever conservative and traditional yet meaningful question "WILL YOU MARRY ME?"
